What is Start-up Visa?
The Canadian Start-Up Visa (SUV) program is a unique pathway to permanent residency for innovative entrepreneurs who wish to launch and grow their businesses in Canada. Eligibility Requirements
To qualify for the Start-Up Visa program, you must:
1. Have a Qualifying Business: At the time of receiving your letter of support:
Each founder holds at least 10% of the company’s voting rights.
The designated organization and founders collectively control over 50% of the voting rights.
The business must be incorporated and operational in Canada before PR issuance.
2. Secure a Letter of Support: Obtain from a designated organization.
3. Meet Language Requirements:
Achieve a minimum Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) 5 in English or French.
4. Prove Settlement Funds:
Show sufficient financial resources to support yourself and your family upon arrival.
The Process
1. Develop Your Business Idea:
Create a unique, innovative business concept with global market potential.
2. Secure Support from a Designated Organization:
Obtain a letter of support by pitching your idea to a designated organization such as a venture capital fund, angel investor group, or business incubator.
3. Meet Language and Financial Requirements:
Demonstrate proficiency in English or French and prove you have sufficient funds to settle in Canada.
4. Submit Your Application:
Prepare and submit your application for permanent residency to Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada (IRCC).
5. Receive a Work Permit (Optional):
While your PR application is being processed, you may apply for a work permit to start building your business in Canada.
6. Obtain Permanent Residency:
Upon approval, you and your family can begin your new life in Canada as permanent residents.
